02Five squares
One market, five moods
The Fairytale Christmas Market spreads across the old town. Each square has its own tone.
Königsplatz
Crafts, gifts and the Königs-Alm hut. This is where the fairytale pyramid stands, twenty-two metres tall, six storeys high.
Friedrichsplatz
A Ferris wheel overlooking the market, a fairytale forest of fir branches with an open fire – and from 10 December the Flic Flac tent.
Opernplatz
Regional Schmeggewöhlerchen and the stage programme. Castello’s puppet theatre plays on Fridays.
Florentiner Platz
The Scandinavian one: waffles, mulled wine, roast ox – just above the fairytale slide.
Grimm’s fairytale village
Around the obelisk: punch, crafts, fairytale readings and the storytelling wagon for children.
Fairytale slide
More than seventy metres down the Treppenstraße. Among children, the undisputed winner.

The flying Father Christmas is the act worth arriving early for: at 5pm he sets off from the roof of GALERIA and crosses Opernplatz and Friedrichsplatz; at 6pm he abseils from the City Point down onto Königsplatz. Behind the show are high-wire artists Falko Traber and his son Fernando.

You walk to the market, not to a car park
The old town begins at our doorstep, with the KulturBahnhof across the street.
On foot
There and back again in the evening – no tram, no car park, no discussion about who drives.

Arrive at Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe; from there it is only a few minutes to the hotel.
